Harrier Breed Profile

Though the Harrier is recognized by the AKC and the FCI, it is not recognized by the KC, even though the FCI lists it as an English breed. There is in fact no trace of any standard for Harriers written by any English breed club. The Harrier is a scenthound, used to hunt hare primarily, and is considered a smaller version of the Foxhound, though it works more slowly than the Foxhound. Though the breed maintains a strong presence in France, it is currently rare in England, as its blood has been diluted by crossing it with other breeds to make it faster.

Harrier Distinguishing Characteristics
