Canine Breed Profile

Greyhound Breed Profile

The Greyhound is the ultimate speed type of dog with an extreme, aerodynamic build, but should never be confused with the Eastern Sighthound types. Because of their speed and agility, they are often used for racing, though the Greyhound racing industry is of dubious legitimacy due to its frequent abuse of its athletes. The Greyhound has an easy going character and temperament but, like other Sighthounds, that changes as soon as prey is spied, as they will be instantly in pursuit. The FCI uses the name Greyhound to refer to other Sighthounds as well, though these are usually less extremely built.

Greyhound Distinguishing Characteristics

The prototype of the speed type. Not as extreme in character and temperament as his Eastern counterparts.
