Whippet Breed Profile
The Whippet shares the Greyhound's beauty, elegance and speed, though it is a smaller version of the latter. Originally bred by English miners, this breed was developed for two purposes: for racing, and for poaching game. The Whippet is less reserved and more lively than the typical Sighthound, at least partially because Terriers were used in the creation of the breed, the reason why there were, originally, wire haired Whippets which have ceased to exist as part of this breed. The Whippet hunts by both sight and scent. The AKC standard allows the Whippet to be larger in size than the FCI or KC does.
