Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breed Profile

A dog owned by aristocrats and royalty as early as the 15th or 16th century in Great Britain, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was favored by King Charles I, from whom it took its name, and Queen Victoria. In 1928, the first breed club was formed in England, and in 1944 the breed was given recognition by the Kennel Club, though the breed only received full recognition by the AKC, and placement in the Toy group, in 1996. Essentially a companion dog, the King Charles is a friendly, happy dog without nervousness or shyness, and a loving family member.
